Congratulations to mystedraveneyes, caniswolfie, noone7212, normajean, dnelson13, and those grads who don’t have LJs. I think I got everyone who I know’s LJ names. Best of wishes, and good luck out there.

During the ceremony dickardo, mystedraveneyes, and I discovered that the DS does indeed let you bounce through units for Pictochat.

Ran into Keith, a computer science major from the class of 1999 that I had a few computer science classes with back in the day. That was a trip down memory lane.

Next year is my turn, I think.

One great big festering neon distraction

I love summer storms.

noone7212‘s put together a man continuum. Most guys are like sine or cosine waves, falling into the asshole, pussy, or nice guy categories. There’s some spillover to the others, but it’s pretty consistent she explained. Me? I’m a trigonometric tangent function, all three at once. That’s something I’m putting on my tombstone.

Phasering through the Gordian Knot

Last night I spoke with cessna182, and after wishing my nephew a happy 1st birthday, we chatted for a bit. At some point he mentioned Alexander the Great, a TV movie from 1968 staring Shatner as Alexander. Unlike some other TV movies that show up at conventions all the time, neither of us had ever seen a copy of this.

The DVD’s available from Amazon, how the hell did we not hear of this gem earlier?

Aaah, Fallout fanboys

Bathesda throws a website up. Nothing but a still and some music.

Rabid fanboys attack!

Would anything please them at this point, though? Srsly. Yes, FT:BoS was a disappointment to most, like Ultima 8 or 9. I understand, F:BoS was a painful insult and desecration of the franchise, made far worse by the fact that Van Buren was gutted to help the stillborn game into the world. The Fallout fanboys have so much baggage at this point, I think they’re incapable of happiness. Even if the next Wasteland or Planescape: Torment is dropped in their laps by Tim Cain himself in a tight leather daddy outfit they’d probably still scream about the game taking too long to install, spewing thirty page threads full of bile and rage.

And yeah, I consider myself a Fallout fanboy, but I’d like to think that my expectations are realistic and that I’m willing to settle for something that just doesn’t suck.

Friday night, after dinner in Madison, I was running on zero sleep. Negative sleep. Pink elephants wandering through the world lack of sleep. That sweet, sultry, seductive little temptress had been calling me for days. Whispering into my ears, promising me a wonderful evening if I would just give in and come back to my place with her. She’d take me on the couch, or in my bed… but I couldn’t give in to her after the train ride home. Instead I wandered town for a while, as I was already dressed up for the conference. Walked into three floors of douchebaggery, getting a coke from there. Continued to work my way through the establishments I usually just walk past, staving off the sweet embrace of sleep just a bit longer and taking in the atmospheres. In my addled brain, I realized that I really missed Cafe Newz and the Melody Bar. Maybe it’s the central Jerz in me, maybe I just haven’t explored my local area enough, or maybe I’m just getting old and set in my ways with a past that can never be recaptured.

Saturday night, after watching Blade Runner with _yggdrasil and dickardo, I again found myself with an itch to walk. Instead of sitting in the massive waste of taxpayer dollars known as Secaucus Junction catching Pokémon and picking berries, I caught the train all the way into the city and wandered midtown for a while. Most who remember Times Square as what it once was hate the Disneyfied MTV theme park it is now. Understanding how it now symbolizes all that is wrong with globalization or the American media megacorporations to many friends of mine, I still get a kick of just walking through it at times. Seeing what tourists are wearing that season. Hearing what countries have come over that night, based on accents. Trying to identify whatever chain store I’m walking past, based on smell alone (Auntie Anne’s, Olive Garden, McDonald’s, Jamba Juice, Roy Roger’s, they’ve all got their distinctive individual scents). Getting caught in a dozen different tourist photographs, despite trying to avoid interrupting any. I know as a local I’m supposed to hate it, I know as a “socially conscious” individual I’m supposed to despise it, but I enjoy the spectacle once in a while.

Almost done

I am one paper away from being done with my second major, and I’ve already got a good deal of work done on that paper. ZOMG!

There is something funny about my car breaking down and me being forced to take mass transit the night before I take part in a conference on peak oil and global warming. It is no longer funny, now that I find myself without a car until Monday, on Cinco de Mayo weekend, with various social obligations. It’s like I’m being forced to finish my paper and play WoW and catch Pokémon. Well, not really, I just have to limit myself to the city.

I love my guild:

Rusak shouted, “My car won’t start, can’t get home.”
dreaddark shouted, “damnit rusak, set your hearth to your home”
Halcrom shouted, “Use your ruby slippers next time nub lawlz”
